[EPISODE 13] – Francesco Lazzari
Study as a Light to Deepen Faith and Interpret the World
An educator working with individuals with mental disabilities, Francesco Lazzari lives in Senna Comasco, Italy. A native Italian speaker, after completing several Master of Arts degrees in English at Domuni, he is currently pursuing a Master of Arts (Year 1) in Biblical Theology in Italian.
A Life and Faith Journey Fully Embraced
On a personal level, the essential elements that define me are the following: I am 60 years old, I have been married for 32 years, I have three children, I work as an educator with individuals with intellectual disabilities, and I am Catholic.
My academic journey has been rather extensive. I resumed my studies around the age of 35, after completing my training as an educator, and I have never interrupted them since. My fundamental objective has always been to deepen the content of my faith and to acquire criteria for interpreting the reality around me in the light of the faith of the Church.
Before joining Domuni, I completed several programs: a Magisterium in Religious Sciences, followed by a bachelor’s degree and a specialized master’s degree in the same field. I also undertook a distance-learning master’s degree in the history of theological thought, as well as another in theology, philosophy, and religious studies.
Subsequently, I discovered Domuni Universitas: I first completed a Master’s degree in Theology with a specialization in Moral Theology and a Master’s degree in Philosophy in English, and I am now enrolled in a Master’s degree in Biblical Theology in Italian.
Choosing Domuni: A Practical and Intellectual Evidence
I chose Domuni Universitas primarily for its fully online format and its high degree of flexibility, which allow me to reconcile my studies with highly irregular working hours. I was also able to structure my academic path over a timeframe adapted to my situation, spreading one academic year over two years.
The decisive factor remains the possibility of constructing an individualized study plan, which has enabled me to explore, in a structured and guided manner, the topics that interest me most.
Studying While Working: Between Enthusiasm and Perseverance
If I were to summarize my experience, I would highlight two key elements:
enthusiasm and perseverance.
Enthusiasm stems from the opportunity to study subjects that deeply matter to me. It is a genuine source of joy. However, perseverance is equally essential, because between work and family responsibilities, even if motivation is central, steady discipline is required to progress in one’s studies.
I am very satisfied with my academic path. I remain motivated, the course content is engaging, and I have been able to design a study program truly aligned with my needs and interests.
Over time, I have observed that my knowledge not only deepens but also broadens, allowing me to develop a more comprehensive understanding of major theological questions. Today, through my Master’s in Biblical Theology, I have drawn closer to the Bible in a more systematic way. This is, for me, a profound source of joy.
The Time of Research: A Foundational Experience
If I had to identify a particularly significant moment in my studies, it would be the preparation of my master’s theses. This represents an essential period of in-depth study, constant dialogue with thesis supervisors, and progressive discovery.
One begins with a subject that is known in a general way, and then explores it step by step, uncovering new dimensions. Ultimately, one develops a deep attachment to the chosen topic. What I appreciated most was this dedicated time for research, study, and academic writing.
In this context, I encountered not a physical person, but a great theologian: Saint Thomas Aquinas.
I worked on his thought through my theses, particularly on natural law and the virtues. This allowed me to engage deeply with his work and to discover an intellectual universe of remarkable richness.
I found in it a structured mode of thought, a constant dialogue with sources, and a significant intellectual openness. Today, I can affirm that this encounter has profoundly influenced my academic journey.
Future Projects Centered on Study
I have two major aspirations for the future.
The first is, when my professional situation allows it, to attend a faculty of theology in person and to continue my studies further. This is a long-standing objective.
The second is connected to new areas of interest, particularly Islamic studies (Islamology), which I find highly relevant and intellectually stimulating.
At the same time, I wish to continue placing the skills I have acquired at the service of my local community and, if possible, my diocese.
A Program Strongly Recommended
I recommend Domuni Universitas without hesitation, especially to those who work and cannot follow a traditional university path.
Its flexibility, the possibility of building a personalized academic pathway, the quality of the courses, and the organization of the studies are major strengths.
Of course, it requires motivation and discipline, but for those who wish to deepen their knowledge while balancing professional and family life, it is an excellent academic option.
