Domuni within the Network of Dominican Universities

28 april 2026

The Network of Universities of the Order of Preachers (UNOP–RUOP) continues to build momentum in fostering international collaboration among Dominican academic institutions. The first meeting of the current working cycle was held on April 22, marking the launch of a series of gatherings aimed at shaping shared priorities for the years ahead. On this occasion, the Rector of Domuni Universitas represented the institution. Domuni’s active engagement in this network reflects its commitment to contributing to a shared intellectual endeavor in the service of research, education, and intercultural dialogue.

THE NETWORK OF DOMINICAN UNIVERSITIES: COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE IN THE SERVICE OF THE WORLD

In a globalized academic landscape where universities are often in competition, some initiatives deliberately choose a different path, one of cooperation, resource-sharing, and the pursuit of the common good. The Network of Universities of the Order of Preachers (UNOP–RUOP) fully embodies this approach. Still relatively unknown to the wider public, it nonetheless represents a key framework for understanding how the Dominican intellectual tradition continues to nourish contemporary thought on an international scale.

A NETWORK IN THE SERVICE OF A MISSION

Established following a General Chapter of the Order of Preachers, the network brings together universities, faculties, higher education institutes, and research centers rooted in the Dominican tradition. Its purpose is not merely institutional; it is deeply connected to the mission of the Order, inherited from Saint Dominic: to seek and to proclaim the truth in the service of the Church and the world.

At the heart of this mission lies a distinctive expression: misericordia veritatis, which may be translated as “the mercy of truth.” It conveys a demanding yet profoundly human vision of higher education: truth is not a cold abstraction, but a reality that engages, liberates, and serves both individuals and societies.

INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC COOPERATION

The network primarily aims to strengthen ties among its members. In concrete terms, this takes many forms: exchanges of faculty and students, joint research projects, mutual recognition of academic credits, shared programs, and the organization of conferences and symposia.

In an often fragmented academic world, this cooperative approach enables the pooling of resources, the sharing of best practices, and the continuous improvement of educational quality. It also fosters agility: institutions learn from one another, adapt more quickly to global changes, and respond more effectively to contemporary challenges.

Beyond its technical dimensions, however, this collaboration reflects a deeper vision, that of a collective intelligence in which diversity of cultures, disciplines, and contexts becomes a genuine asset.

A CONCRETE AND ACTIVE DYNAMISM

This dynamic is not merely theoretical; it is already well underway. The first meeting of the current working cycle, comprising six sessions, was held on April 22, under the presidency of Fr. Pablo Sicouly, OP, Socius to the Master of the Order for Intellectual Life. It brought together the heads of member institutions. The Rector of Domuni Universitas represented the university, actively contributing to the discussions and the development of initial shared orientations.

These regular meetings are designed, in particular, to structure the network’s governance and to develop a shared roadmap for the years ahead. They provide valuable opportunities for dialogue, where the diversity of local realities meets a shared commitment to move forward together.

A LIVING TRADITION FACING CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES

One of the network’s major contributions lies in its ability to bring the Dominican tradition into dialogue with current issues. Rooted in a rich intellectual history, shaped notably by figures such as Thomas Aquinas and the School of Salamanca, this tradition is far from static; it continues to unfold across a wide range of contexts.

The network thus promotes shared reflection on key topics such as human rights, social justice, human dignity, and intercultural and interreligious dialogue. It seeks to combine academic approaches with lived experience, particularly in regions where fundamental rights remain fragile.

TANGIBLE ACADEMIC SOLIDARITY

The network also plays a significant role in fostering solidarity among institutions. Not all members benefit from the same resources or development conditions. In this context, the sharing of experience and mutual support become essential.

The network provides concrete forms of assistance: program development, access to funding, scholarship initiatives, and support for academic structuring.

DOMUNI UNIVERSITAS WITHIN THE NETWORK

Within this network, Domuni Universitas holds a distinctive position. As an international online university, it contributes in its own way to keeping the Dominican tradition alive in the contemporary world.

Its pedagogical model enables it to reach students in highly diverse contexts, including regions where access to higher education is limited. In doing so, it concretely advances the network’s mission: making knowledge accessible, forming committed individuals, and fostering dialogue between cultures.

Domuni’s membership in UNOP–RUOP is particularly fruitful. It allows the university to be part of a collective dynamic, to benefit from academic exchanges, and to engage in joint projects. In return, Domuni brings its expertise in digital education, internationalization, and pedagogical innovation.

This complementarity perfectly illustrates the spirit of the network: each institution finds its place not in competition with others, but in contribution to a shared project.

GOVERNANCE IN THE SERVICE OF DIALOGUE

The network operates through governance structures designed to encourage participation and collective discernment. Rectors and institutional leaders meet regularly to define orientations, share experiences, and develop joint initiatives.

This collegial governance ensures that diverse contexts and perspectives are taken into account while maintaining unity of vision. It also allows for flexibility in the implementation of collaborative efforts.

A DYNAMIC IN THE MAKING

The Network of Dominican Universities is part of a promising and evolving dynamic. As global challenges grow increasingly complex- international crises, technological transformations, ecological concerns - the need for a rooted yet open collective reflection becomes ever more evident.

In this context, UNOP–RUOP emerges as a privileged space for rethinking the future of higher education, not as a competition between institutions, but as a cooperative endeavor in the service of truth and the common good.

For Domuni Universitas, this membership is not merely institutional; it is deeply aligned with its identity and mission. It opens up new perspectives for development, collaboration, and engagement, while firmly anchoring the university within a living and universal intellectual tradition.
