Rector's letter for May 2025

12 may 2025

Some springs carry more promise than others. This one, with the election of the new pope, brings a discreet yet persistent breath of hope to our fractured world.

A man said yes, in the silence of a chapel, to the weight and gentleness of a name that now surpasses him. And that yes echoes far beyond the walls of the Sistine Chapel, as an invitation to dialogue, to unity, to a peace patiently woven. “Peace be with you.”

For peace is never a given. It is shaped, stone by stone, through the encounter of differences, through slow listening, through the ability to see beyond the surface of the other. Peace is that fragile threshold crossed by those who still dare to believe that truth does not eliminate otherness, but embraces it.

At Domuni Universitas, our mission unfolds in that very breath. We live at the crossroads of languages, continents, and traditions. Far from being an obstacle, the screen becomes a thin membrane through which unexpected communion emerges. Students from the Sahel engage with professors from Poland; voices from the Amazon respond to those from Lebanon. And what might have been a mere academic exchange sometimes becomes holy ground: a place of sharing, of upheaval, of light received.

As the Church prepares to follow a new shepherd, may we at Domuni continue to walk this path with fervour—not amid clamour, but in the clarity of awakened consciences. Amid the harshness of reality, yet drawn toward the ever-receding horizon of a just and enduring peace, where cultures do not ignore one another, but bless one another.
