Tradition and modernity: the use of English translations of the Bible in the Church and the Liturgy

What does change mean for an unchanging Church? We will think about the challenges posed by an evolving knowledge of the Bible since the 16th century. 

The objective of this discussion is to consider what change means for a Church with an unchanging belief system.

  • Thinking about our understanding of the Bible, and keeping discussion to Biblical texts, we will address the following questions: 
    (a) Does Tradition evolve? 
    (b) Does it have to evolve? 
    (c) How does it evolve? 

  • Conclusion – 10 minutes
