Dr. Jean Druel

Parcours académique et responsabilités

Dr. Jean Druel, o.p, de nationalité française, réside au Caire. Après un master en théologie et en patristique copte, consacré à "l’expérience spirituelle de saint Pachôme" (Institut catholique de Paris, 2002), il a entrepris une formation en enseignement de l’arabe à l’Université américaine du Caire, où il a obtenu en 2006 un master avec un mémoire intitulé Emphatic Sounds in Educated Cairene Arabic.

En 2012, il a soutenu une thèse de doctorat en histoire de la grammaire arabe à l’Université Radboud de Nimègue (Pays-Bas), sous la direction du Professeur Kees Versteegh, sur le thème Numerals in Arabic Grammatical Theory.

Entre 2013 et 2016, il a dirigé le « Projet des 200 », consacré à la contextualisation historique des œuvres de deux cents auteurs du patrimoine arabo-musulman.

De 2014 à 2020, il a assumé la direction de l’Institut dominicain d’études orientales (Idéo) au Caire. Ses recherches actuelles portent sur l’édition critique et l’étude d’un manuscrit inédit du Kitābde Sībawayh († vers 180/796).
