Liturgy is primary theology.

The course provides the theological and historical foundations for understanding the evolution of Christian liturgical forms, and pastoral practice. The course will examine the major moments in the historical development of the liturgy in both East and West from the New Testament era with its Jewish foundations to the present.

Attention will be given to the role of ritual and symbol in human life, the relationship of liturgy to society and culture, and critical approaches to liturgical practice.

Organizations are conceived as systems and as such are embedded in an environment.

Metaphysics is the study of things in their ultimate causes. As such, the specialty of metaphysics is that it seeks the final explanation or the ultimate causes of things precisely in so far as they are, in so far as they exist, or in so far as they are real. Aristotle called it “First Philosophy” or “Theology” since it leads to the first principle or the ultimate explanation of all things.

All human knowledge begins with sense experience but can terminate sometimes in the senses, or in the imagination or in the intellect alone . Accordingly we can distinguish between three levels of scientific knowledge corresponding to the three degrees of abstraction from matter which can be made by the intellect in its examination of reality.

Metaphysics, a discipline with long standing history, has been understood in different ways. Traditionally, it is considered as the most general and fundamental discipline of all other disciplines. Metaphysics or the Philosophy of Being as Being seeks to answer questions about existence. 

Ecumenical dialogue requires a methodology to move from disagreement to consensus. 

The norm is the idea central to the thought of Michel Foucault. It is the point from which he studies modern society. He distinguishes the norm from other forms of power.

This course intends to introduce the students to the theories associated with optimistic and pessimistic views of the developmental potential of migration and diaspora communities.

This course will provide a general introduction to the language of the New Testament.

Prerequisite: completion of NT Greek 1 with a minimum grade of 12/20 or previous study of New Testament Greek.

An introduction to the Fathers of the Church, from Ignatius of Antioch to John of Damascus: Writers, doctors, pastors, the Fathers of the Church

The term ‘anthropology’ is derived from two Greek words: ἀνθωπος (anthrōpos) and λογος (logos). 

This course has been written to assist the audience to understand the philosophical underpinnings and its relevance to the complex situations of the 21st century, but also to allow learners to determine and appreciate the role of philosophy in education.   

The purpose of this course is to explore the philosophies underpinning economic approaches to the study of entrepreneurship. 

Philosophy of language is an extraordinarily rich field. It has a history stretching back, in the Western tradition, to the preSocratics.

Logic equips individuals with the required skills to identify errors, known as fallacies in an argument. Logic generally studies the relations the mind creates between different products or contents of intellectual knowledge; that is perceptions, propositions and arguments, and seeks to understand the different relations, which arise in the human mind when it knows things. This comprehensible course on logic is divided into two parts: the second part (sections III and IV) on formal logic focus on the core aspects of categorical syllogisms.  

Just as pertinent knowledge and expertise are required when making right decisions and choices, certain skills and rules are necessary when attempting to reason correctly. Equipping one with logical skills and rules is the major aim of logic or philosophy of logic. This comprehensible course on logic is divided into two parts: the first part (sections I and II) give an overview of logic and common informal fallacies.

Philosophy of Religion is also known as Philosophical Theology or Philosophy of God. Other names include Natural Theology and Theodicy.

The impact of science, not only on the world we inhabit, but also on the world of philosophy, is undeniable.

Political philosophy is a branch of philosophy that studies essential questions about various political issues, concepts and problems that are important to any human society.

This eight-week seminar will investigate some key elements of the Trinitarian theology of St. Thomas Aquinas. We will explore the mystery of the Trinity through several fundamental texts of the scholastic tradition.

The story of Esther

The book of Judith is named after its main hero whose achievements it tells and glorifies. Like the books of Tobit and Esther, the book of Judith focuses on a main character and tells in detail the salvation given by God in a critical situation.

The name which designates the book has not always been the same through the centuries. The name « Tobiah » in English or « Tobie » in French comes from the Latin Vulgate which gives the same Latin name, Tobias, to the father and the son. It has been used in the past decades but is generally no longer in use.

This course focuses on the centrality of the Cross in Hans Urs von Balthasar’s Christology.

The Creed (divided in 12 parts)

This course places the Epistles of John within their context in the New Testament with the Gospel of John. It invites you to think for yourself about the meaning of the texts, and the relationship between the Epistles and the Gospel.

The Odes of Solomon are a collection of 42 Christian hymns from the late first or early to mid-second centuries. They were composed in Syria and known from Egypt to Rome. They celebrate Christ as the Logos, the Virgin Birth, the Trinity, the crucifixion and descent of Christ into Hades. Discover these Odes and their meaning. 

The principal aim of the course will be to furnish an appreciation of Johannine literature as Good News, with particular reference to the theological perspective of the author. The course will further aim at providing a basic familiarity with, and a critical assessment of, contemporary critical thinking on the Johannine writings, particularly the Gospel of John.

We propose to define each term of the title, in order to understand the cultural background that was the matrix of Christianity.

Grace is God’s life in us, the authentic life of our human spirit or what our life is truly called to be. Without our participation in the life of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Trinity) through baptism, we cannot truly be Christian and without grace we cannot truly live a Christian life.
